LTSE CFC 1Inauguration of a Common Facility Centre (CFC) was held at the auditorium of Institute of Leather Engineering & Technology (ILET) Hazaribagh, Dhaka on Monday, 13th June 2016. On behalf of INSPIRED Project, Ms. Anne Raine, Senior Expert, inaugurated the event where many members of SME leather and footwear clusters were present.

This CFC is a one stop service centre to increase the skills and capacity of the footwear and leather goods SME cluster, thus enabling them to produce higher quality products with more value added.

The CFC has been opened at LTSE Co-Operative Society. It has been implemented under the EU INSPIRED initiative “Support for the development of the value added leather products (Footwear and Leather goods) clusters and value chain” by the Leathergoods & Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB). It is one of two CFCs inaugurated under this project and one of the first CFCs in Bangladesh.

Ms. Anne Raine said that, the establishment of this CFC will contribute in increasing; competitiveness ofLTSE CFC 2 value added leather products and growth in sales in domestic market. In addition, through being part of the supply chain by outsourcing some processes for larger companies such as BATA and APEX, they will also be indirectly supplying the international market.

The enhanced skill development of the existing workforce will, in the long term, open many more business opportunities. Mr. Francis De Silva, Senior Specialist, Industry Skills Development, ILO and Mr. Md. Aftab Ali Shaikh    Ph.D, Professor & Director of Institute of Leather Engineering & Technology, University of Dhaka were also present at the event as Special Guests.

LTSE CFC 4In addition, the event was attended by Ms. Kazi Roushan Ara, Executive Director of LFMEAB; Mr. Ali Sabet, Team Leader, Bangladesh INSPIRED Programme; Mr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Secretary, LTSE Co-Operative Society; Mr. Mohammad Hossain and Mr. Mashiur Rahman, Project Manager of LFMEAB.

The event later ended with a Road Show and ribbon-cutting opening of LTSE CFC.
